Researchers at Bowling Green State University analyzed 73,982 Utah middle and high school students from the same SHARP survey dataset used in the BYU Studies research. The paper was published in 2021 in Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (an APA peer-reviewed journal).
Their findings: LDS LGBTQ youth reported lower self-deletion risk than non-LDS LGBTQ peers. The researchers identified family closeness — specifically lower family conflict and higher parental closeness — as the explanatory factor.
