Stephen Cranney at Baylor University analyzed the Utah Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System — a population-based dataset — and found what he termed the "LGB Mormon Paradox."
LGB individuals who identified as Mormon reported better mental health outcomes than LGB individuals who did not. The finding was published in the Journal of Homosexuality in 2017 and is consistent with the BYU Studies finding showing LDS LGBQ youth have the lowest self-deletion attempt rate of any religious group measured.
