Pew Research data shows LDS members report heavy alcohol use at 1% — the lowest of any major religious group measured. Catholics: 7%. Mainline Protestants: 6%. Evangelicals: 5%.

Most LDS members abstain from alcohol entirely, consistent with the Word of Wisdom health code. The low substance use rates are one of the factors researchers have identified as contributing to LDS longevity and mental health advantages.
