As of December 31, 2024, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had 74,127 full-time teaching missionaries serving worldwide. The Church operates 411 missions across more than 150 countries, with missionaries teaching in over 60 languages.
Most LDS missionaries are young — men typically serve 24-month missions starting at age 18, women serve 18-month missions starting at age 19. The Church announced 55 new missions for 2026, the most ever in its history. Missionaries are unpaid and most are personally funded by their families, making the LDS missionary force one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world.
