Approximately 900,000 babies die each year at birth because they cannot breathe. The LDS Helping Babies Breathe program has trained healthcare providers in 94 countries since 2003.
In Tanzania, the program reduced infant mortality by 47% over three years. In one measured year, the program trained 16,473 medical workers across 9 countries and contributed to the resuscitation of 159 newborn babies. (Church-reported program data.)
