LDS Retention Dropped 31 Points — But Still Leads in Active Participation

Identification: 54% (down from ~85%). Active participation: 42% — still #1.

LDS identification retention has declined 31 points since the 1980s — the steepest drop of any major religious group. Evangelical retention dropped 6 points over the same period; Catholic dropped 18.

However, LDS still leads all religions in active monthly participation at 42%. The decline in identification has not erased the engagement advantage. Among those who remain active, well-being outcomes remain the highest of any measured religious group.
